SusCarb (Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin)

By Jon Klipstein, U.S. Army Combat Veteran & Founder of Die Tryin Co.

Science reviewed by Onur Oncer, BS Physiology (Phi Beta Kappa) and peer-reviewed published researcher.

THE CARB BUILT TO GET OUT OF YOUR STOMACH

SusCarbยฎ is a branded highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD): a very large carbohydrate engineered from waxy maize starch into a dense, ring-shaped molecule. Big molecule, low osmotic pull, and that combination is the entire point, because it lets a serious carb dose clear your stomach fast instead of sitting there sloshing through your training.

Cut the fluff: intra-workout carbs are not a novel idea. Carbohydrate is the most established fuel in sports nutrition, full stop. The engineering question HBCD answers is delivery: how do you drink 24 grams mid-session without the gut punishing you for it?

Dose Context
In the trials 15 g HBCD (endurance RPE trial) ยท 10% solutions (gastric-emptying study) Grams of HBCD itself
Fuel Point 2.0 24,000 mg (24 g) per scoop Riding with all 9 EAAs, glutamine, taurine, and a full electrolyte panel

Same units on both rows for once: grams of the carbohydrate itself. The trial doses come from the papers; the 24 g is printed on the Fuel Point 2.0 label.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS

The gastric-emptying physiology was mapped directly. An ultrasonography study in healthy volunteers tracked how fast different carb solutions left the stomach: the fast lane belonged to solutions with low osmotic pressure, and HBCD's giant molecule is what lets a carb drink stay in that low-osmolality zone at concentrations where smaller sugars would stall. On the training side, a double-blind crossover trial gave 15 g of HBCD versus maltodextrin during endurance exercise: perceived exertion climbed significantly less with HBCD at the 30 and 60 minute marks.

Where the evidence stops: both of those studies came out of the lab of the company that invented HBCD, and you should know that when you read them. They are small, and neither proves HBCD builds more muscle or grinds out more reps than a cheaper carb. What is settled science is the carbohydrate itself; what HBCD adds is a delivery profile built for comfort at real doses. We formulate on that, disclose the source of the research, and print the grams.

WHY IT ANCHORS FUEL POINT 2.0

Intra-workout fuel only works if you actually drink it, and nobody keeps sipping a drink that sits like wet cement. SusCarb is the base layer of Fuel Point 2.0 because it carries the 24 g carb load lightly enough that the EAAs and electrolytes ride along in one scoop. When those carbs actually matter, and when they don't, is covered in the carb timing breakdown.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is SusCarb?

A branded highly branched cyclic dextrin: a large, low-osmolality carbohydrate made from waxy maize starch, designed to empty from the stomach quickly and fuel training without gut heaviness.

How is HBCD different from dextrose or maltodextrin?

Molecule size and osmotic pull. Small sugars at meaningful doses create high osmotic pressure, which slows stomach emptying and can leave you bloated mid-set. HBCD packs the same carbohydrate into a far larger molecule with low osmotic pull, so the solution stays in the fast-emptying zone.

When do I drink it?

During training. Long sessions, two-a-days, and hard endurance work are where 24 g of intra-workout carbs earn their place; a 30-minute arm day does not need them.

Does HBCD spike insulin or break a fast?

It is 24 g of real carbohydrate, so yes, it is fuel, not a zero-calorie trick. If you train fasted on purpose, this is the product you skip on those days.
