KSM-66 Ashwagandha

By Jon Klipstein, U.S. Army Combat Veteran & Founder of Die Tryin Co.

Science reviewed by Onur Oncer, BS Physiology (Phi Beta Kappa) and peer-reviewed published researcher.

THE ADAPTOGEN THAT EARNED THE ROSTER SPOT

KSM-66® is a branded ashwagandha extract made from the root only, standardized to at least 5 percent withanolides, the compounds the research keeps coming back to. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen: an herb studied for helping the body manage its stress response, including the hormone cortisol.

Here's the truth: "adaptogen" is one of the most abused words in this industry, usually attached to pixie-dust sprinkles of some root nobody standardized. The reason KSM-66 is in our line is that ashwagandha root extract has actual randomized controlled trials behind it, at doses a label can carry.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS

The stress case rests on root-extract trials. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 64 adults with chronic stress took 300 mg of a high-concentration full-spectrum root extract twice daily for 60 days: every stress-assessment score dropped significantly versus placebo, and so did serum cortisol. A dose-response trial then tested 250 mg and 600 mg per day for eight weeks and found lower perceived stress and cortisol at both doses, with the stronger result at 600 mg.

The training case is thinner but real. A 2015 RCT on ashwagandha and resistance training ran 300 mg of root extract twice daily in 57 young men through 8 weeks of lifting: greater strength gains, more muscle, and a larger testosterone rise than placebo.

Where the evidence stops: these trials ran in stressed or previously untrained people, so generalize carefully to a trained lifter who sleeps well. Not every extract or trial agrees either; studies on other ashwagandha preparations have missed on their primary stress outcome. That is exactly why we specify the root-only, withanolide-standardized form the positive trials are built around, and print the dose.

Dose Context
In the trials 250 to 600 mg per day of root extract Strongest results at 600 mg
Alpha+ 600 mg KSM-66 (≥5% withanolides) Matches the 600 mg/day the root-extract trials ran
Ghillie Greens 100 mg KSM-66 A supporting dose below the studied range, and we say so

That second row versus the third is the label-math habit in action: Alpha+ is where KSM-66 does its full job; in Ghillie Greens it rides along at a smaller dose next to the greens doing theirs. We would rather print that plainly than round 100 up to "clinical" in the marketing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is KSM-66 ashwagandha?

A branded extract of Withania somnifera made only from the root, standardized to at least 5 percent withanolides. Root-only matters because the bulk of the positive human research used root extracts, while leaves are cheaper to process and let brands inflate withanolide numbers a different way.

Is ashwagandha a stimulant?

No, the opposite direction. It is studied for stress support and taken daily like the rest of your foundation stack, not timed around training. Full breakdown of the cortisol side in balancing cortisol.

Does ashwagandha raise testosterone?

The 2015 lifting trial found a larger testosterone rise than placebo in young, previously untrained men who were also starting resistance training. That is a real result with real limits, and the complete hormonal-health guide puts it in context: training, sleep, and food carry that lift; supplements support it.

What dose should I look for?

The trials ran 250 to 600 mg of root extract per day. Alpha+ carries the full 600 mg per serving; Ghillie Greens carries a 100 mg supporting dose alongside its greens.
